Tech and Social Media in the Classroom at Bret Harte High School

Thanks for a great day, Bret Harte!  And thank you to Verne Johnson for inviting me to come speak to you, and for your hospitality.  Here is the presentation I shared with you on Friday, September 23.

Here are some of the resources I talked about:

Start off by creating a classroom blog on Posterous.  The two blogs I have created using Posterous for my classroom are ippmodciv.posterous.com and ippgovt.posterous.com.  You can also see a great example of a clean, simply ALL-SCHOOL blog that I set up at my former school at rionortejhs.posterous.com.

You can also check out blogging sites like Blogger or Wordpress.  I currently use Blogger for mrippolito.com

We then talked about file management and file storage.  For that I use PBWorks.  PBWorks has a specific site for educators (free account!).  You can check that out at pbworks.com/education.  You can see the examples of PBWorks sites I have created at mrippolito.pbworks.com and rippolito.pbworks.com.  My friend, Matt Sheridan, is also a history teacher and uses PBWorks as his main teacher website.  You can check that out at http://sheridanhistory.pbworks.com.

We then talked about Facebook and Twitter.  You can check out my classroom Facebook pages at facebook.com/IppModCiv and facebook.com/IppGovt.  And finally you can check out the instructions for how to make a Twitter Fast Follow account here:  http://www.wadaliacha.com/2011/09/area-e-and-f-advisor-conference.html

Please feel free to e-mail me at rippolito@gmail.com if you have any questions.  Or contact me on Twitter.  Or Facebook.  Thanks again for the warm welcome, Bullfrogs!
